ESPA 101T (1.5) Career Essentials
This course includes a study of theoretical and practical knowledge related to personal and professional development, including client services, self-care, effective communication, professional conduct and ethics. In addition will focus on an introduction to business essentials, retail and marketing techniques as they relate to industry. ESPA 101T was formerly called ESTH 001; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:0.5:1 for 33 weeks)

ESPA 102T (1.5) Microbiology: Health and Hygiene
A study of theoretical and practical knowledge related to industry health and safety infection control practices as they relate to the performance of esthetic and spa services and the use and maintenance of tools and equipment. Topics include levels of infection control: sanitation, disinfection and sterilization. ESPA 102T was formerly called ESTH 002; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:0.5:1 for 33 weeks)

ESPA 103T (1.5) Anatomy and Physiology
A study of theoretical and practical knowledge related to the structure and function of the human biology including cells, tissues, and organs of the following systems: Integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and circulatory systems as they pertain to esthetics and spa services ESPA 103T was formerly called ESTH 003; credit will not be granted for both courses. ESPA 104T (1.5) Skin Physiology
A study of theoretical and practical knowledge related to the science of skin care, focusing on the biochemical components of body and skin physiology, skin care ecology, chemistry, electricity and properties of cosmetic products. ESPA 104T was formerly called ESTH 002; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:1:0.5 for 33 weeks)

ESPA 105T (3) Esthetic Services and Treatments
Students combine technical skill and theoretical understanding to perform both basic and advanced esthetic services and treatments, including natural manicure, pedicure, advanced hand, nail, and foot treatments and services, hair removal services, and therapies ESPA 105T was formerly called ESTH 004; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:1.5:2.5 for 33 weeks)

ESPA 106T (3) Spa Body Services and Treatments
Students combine technical skill and theoretical understanding to perform both basic and advanced face and body treatments, including specialized facials treatments, massage techniques, body and back treatments, and spa therapies ESPA 106T was formerly called ESTH 004; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:1.5:2.5 for 33 weeks)

ESPA 107T (1.5) The Art and Science of Makeup and Non-Surgical Enhancements
A study of the art and science of makeup services and enhancements. Topics include colour theory, makeup design, product knowledge, makeup procedures and techniques, and safety precautions. Students will apply principles of design and colour theory as they perform lash and brow services, day and night make-up application ESPA 107T was formerly called ESTH 006; credit will not be granted for both courses. ESPA 108T (1.5) Experiential Learning: Clinic and Spa Module Phase 1
This course provides students with real-life experience to enhance their technical and professional skillsets while performing Esthetic services and treatments under the supervision of instructional faculty in the setting of VIU Esthetic Spa Clinic. Students will also carry out a variety of receptionist duties related to the clinic. ESPA 108T was formerly called ESTH 008; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:0:3 for 33 weeks)

ESPA 109T (3) Experiential Learning: Clinic and Spa Module Phase 2
This course provides students with real-life experience to enhance their technical and professional skillsets while performing Esthetic services and treatments under the supervision of instructional faculty in the setting of VIU Esthetic Spa Clinic.
