This introductory theory course explores the landscape of psychedelic medicine as it re-emerges in western psychotherapeutic modalities and medical paradigm. We will bridge Indigenous traditional knowledge and practice with scientific research and explore ethics, guiding / social justice principles and developing practice standards for reducing harm, and maximizing potential benefits. PAT 501 (3) Introduction to Psychedelic Medicine (Effective Sep 2024)

This introductory theory course lays the groundwork and essential principles for the interpersonal and therapeutic relationships that are crucial for practitioners involved in psychedelic medicine. Students explore and situate themselves within the historical and cross-cultural dimensions of these substances, drawing insights from traditional healers and emerging experts in the field. (3:0:0)

PAT 502 (3) Psychedelic Medicine: Trauma Informed and Inclusive Care (Ends Aug 2024)

This theory course explores the interconnection and application of principles of inclusion, cultural safety, trauma informed practice and spiritual care in psychedelic medicine, in the western healthcare context. Considerations will include intersectionality, equity, diverse cultural and spiritual systems, expanded states of consciousness, and multigenerational trauma. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: Must have completed or be actively enrolled in PAT 501.

Co-requisites: PAT 501.

PAT 502 (3) Psychedelic Medicine: Trauma-Informed and Inclusive Care (Effective Sep 2024)

This theory course bridges Western and Indigenous Knowledge systems, fostering the integration of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles, Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, trauma-informed practice, energetic and spiritual care in psychedelic medicine. Students delve further into intersectionality, decolonization, system-thinking, expanded states of consciousness, and multigenerational and collective trauma. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: Must have completed or be actively enrolled in PAT 501.

Co-requisites: PAT 501.

PAT 503 (3) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy: Professional Practice (Ends Aug 2024)

This theory course is designed for multidisciplinary professionals preparing to support psychedelic-assisted therapy in medical or therapeutic roles. Building on foundational knowledge, participants will develop practice frameworks for diverse clients including intake and preparation; therapeutic methods and transformative processes; integration and community engagement; and cultivating essential practitioner competencies. Prerequisite: PAT 501 and PAT 502.

PAT 503 (3) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy: Professional Practice (Effective Sep 2024)

In this theory course, students deepen their foundational knowledge and collaborate within multidisciplinary care delivery teams to enhance competencies in psychedelic-assisted therapy. The focus is to encompass comprehensive assessments, address common challenges when supporting individuals in non-ordinary states of consciousness, and integrate insights to ensure seamless continuity of care. PAT 504 (6) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy in Practice (Ends Aug 2024)

This practicum is designed for interprofessional care teams preparing to facilitate psychedelic-assisted therapy in clinical or therapeutic roles. Participants will integrate research and context informed care by engaging experiential knowledge, ethical frameworks and principles to maximize therapeutic potentials. Skills will be developed in a supervised and peer-supported community of practice. (0:0:0 -90)

PAT 504 (6) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy in Practice (Practicum) (Effective Sep 2024)

This practicum readies practitioners for the frontline of care by bridging theory and practice, highlighting research integration, contextual awareness, and ethical principles. Under the supervision of licensed practitioners at the practicum site, students gain hands-on experience while demonstrating core competencies in psychedelic-assisted therapy. (0:0:0 -90)
